Nordic Swan Ecolabelled coating system
We use Tikkurila's coating system for our factory-painted cladding. It is approved under the CMP classification system and carries the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.
The industrial priming of cladding has a number of advantages. Between planing and painting, the timber is dry-stored away from direct sunlight. Derome's cladding is primed in premises where conditions, such as moisture levels, temperature and application quantities, are carefully controlled. A dry film thickness of 80-100 μm is applied to the sawn surface.

Up to 15 years of service life with proper maintenance
The outermost cells of an untreated timber surface are quickly broken down by the sun's UV rays, weather, wind, algae and mould spores. If you do not paint a timber surface until the cells on the surface have started to break down, adhesion of the paint will be much weaker than on a completely new surface. If mould spores have settled on the timber surface, the risk of microbial growth increases.
The prerequisite for good durability and a long service life is a combination of good timber, primer, undercoat, overcoat and proper maintenance. When properly maintained, Derome's painted products provide long-lasting protection and durability.

Pinja Protect S - water-based primer
The paint we use as a primer is a water-based acrylic which provides the same amount of protection as an oil-based paint. It is also a water-based alternative designed to reduce environmental impact compared with many traditional coating systems.
Prior to coating, exposed end grain is treated with primer oil to provide additional protection to these particularly vulnerable areas. Primed cladding can remain exposed for up to ten months before the final topcoat is applied. Two coats of the chosen overcoat paint should then be applied to achieve the best protection.
Alkyd-Acrylic Hybrid coating system
Using Pinja Protect GM/Ultra Pro 30 (two factory-applied coats) and finishing on site with a recommended topcoat can provide a service life of up to 15 years. This is provided that the recommended topcoat systems are used and that all application and maintenance instructions are followed.
